Corporate History   How we perfected Tablet Water Chlorination

A History of the Hammonds Companies

First there was one; then there were two. Today, The Hammonds Companies, Inc. have combined all their resources to become the leading authority in the innovative product design and engineering of fluid handling technology -- notably, our innovative thinking behind the water industry's most reliable and efficient tablet water chlorination system on the market today.

The Houston-based company has long been known for its quality line of tablet water chlorination systems, additive injectors and hydrostatic test equipment, as well as the industry standard in fuel treatment products. But before it became a single powerhouse, many industry observers remember two Hammonds companies: Hammonds Technical Services, Inc. and Hammonds Fuel Additives, Inc.

Hammonds Technical Services
Hammonds Technical Services came first under the direction of founder and Hammonds Companies President Carl Hammonds. Carl actually started his company in 1982 under the name Delta Source Corporation, building early versions of the Hammonds line of fluid-powered injectors and hydrostatic testers.

With the U.S. Navy as an important, early customer, Hammonds Technical Services, Inc. developed a strong reputation as an innovator and leader in the manufacture of fluid powered additive injectors. At the same time, the company continued to build its line of hydrostatic test equipment -- the oldest, and one of the strongest in their product line.

In subsequent years, the military again played a part in Hammonds' growth. In 1986, the U.S. Air Force approached Hammonds with a request to build a smaller, portable additive injector unit, capable of injecting multiple additives. The Hammonds concept and design successfully resulted in a unit that operated without power, meters or controls, and functioned as a passive part of the fuel delivery system. In fact, their unit provided advantages far beyond any competitive product in production. Hammonds remains a primary contractor to the military in the building and delivery of additive injector equipment. Other key additive injector customers include such companies as Chevron, Texaco, Caltex, BP, Exxon, Fina, Shamrock, Koch, Triangle and Coastal.

Hammonds Fuel Additives
Hammonds Fuel Additives was launched in 1991, when Carl purchased the Biobor® JF fuel biocide product line from the U.S. Borax and Chemical Co. Later, Hammonds Fuel Additives expanded their product line with the addition of ColdFlo® Fuel Improver, Select3® Diesel Conditioner, and LubriBor® Hi-Tech Lubricity Agent for use in low-sulfur diesel fuels, and FIZZY®, a fuel system ice inhibitor. Hammonds, likewise, has a long and impressive list of companies recommending the regular use of Biobor® JF with the products they manufacture.

The Hammonds Companies: Today and Tomorrow
Each year, The Hammonds Companies continue to break new ground and launch new products vastly different from those that currently exist. Today, the company is 47 people strong, including a full time staff of engineers, lab technicians, assembly workers, inside and outside sales, customer service, management and administrative staff -- each of whom is considered a vital contributor to the company's success. What does the future hold for this dynamic organization? In the words of Carl Hammonds, only our imagination will limit our ideas. And that, he says, will keep Hammonds pushing ahead in new and dynamic areas of product engineering and design. On behalf of all of us at Hammonds, our thanks for your interest and support.
