Water Chlorination FAQ's
Making a decision to change chlorination methods is a big one -- we know
that. Whether you are currently a chlorine gas or bleach user, you probably
have a few questions you need answers to prior to making the change to the
Hammonds Tablet Chlorination System.
We've anticipated that, and now present some "Frequently Asked Questions" --
and their answers -- to help guide the process along.
And, if after reviewing these, you'd like to discuss in further detail,
please don't hesitate to contact either Rick Richardson
or any of our Hammonds distributors for more information.
We promise you it will be the best move you've ever made in tablet water chlorination!

How is the solution controlled and monitored?
Hammonds offers two versions of the system:
The Automatic Chlorinator is fully automated and uses a chlorine analyzer connected
to a motor controller and pump to monitor and inject solution into the water
supply with superb accuracy. The Manual Chlorinator does not feature an analyzer
but relies on an individual to set the appropriate injection level on the pump
using our easy-to-understand erosion charts. The manual system is also extremely
accurate.

Is the system pressure or gravity fed?
Hammonds offers both pressure fed and gravity fed systems.

Is the system easy to install?
Yes. Hammonds' new system features an "off-the-shelf, plug and play design" that does not require any custom engineering. You simply plumb in, plumb out and drop in the tablets. It's that easy.

Who can use this new vortex chlorination system?
This new system is so flexible it fits most applications including rural, county and
city water supplies, food and beverage processing, meat processing, cooling tower disinfection and more. In short, anyone with a need to safely chlorinate water flows of 50 to 2000 gallons per minute can be serviced with a single basic system.

Can the system be used for swimming pools?
Not yet. However, Hammonds is testing a version of the advanced technology feeder and preparing to apply for NSF listing for pool applications. Check back here soon for updates!

Is the system ULŪ and NSF Standard approved?
NSF listing is currently pending. All electrical components are UL listed.

What are the advantages of using this system over other chlorination methods?
There are several advantages to using the Hammonds Advanced Technology
Vortex Tablet Water Chlorination System. They include:
| |
Better control and performance
This process provides superior control and performance and a consistent and predictable solution. In recent field trials, analyzer paced systems produced residuals that were amazingly accurate. More than 90% of the time they fell between .78 and .82 ppm.
Improved safety
The solution created is powerful enough to eliminate microbes in water, yet safe to handle and not subject to costly and time-consuming EPA and OSHA regulations or expensive liability insurance. That's because the solution created is under the 1% hazardous material concentration. There is no need for specialized containment, scrubbers and other equipment, HAZMAT training or risk management plans.
Lower maintenance
In addition to being non-hazardous, the solution does not cause the typical maintenance problems such as clogging and scaling associated with gas, bleach and other tablet methods, which can be very corrosive. This improves dependability and considerably extends the service intervals - saving customers time and money.
More efficient
The advanced system is much more efficient than other options because it uses less water - just two gallons per minute - and less power - less than 5 amps of standard 110 VAC. Its TabSaver design extends tablet life, by providing a constant and sustainable erosion rate that is simply unattainable by other systems.
Lower operating costs
When comparing total disinfection costs of the Hammonds vortex system to other chlorination methods such as chlorine gas and liquid bleach, the Hammonds system is highly competitive. With the Hammonds' system there is no need to meet expensive EPA and OSHA requirements, no HAZMAT liability insurance, no specialized containment, scrubbers and other equipment, and no additional staffing required. In addition
to safety, improved efficiency and dependability combine to provide lower operating costs and significant long-term savings versus other chlorination methods.
